The United States Volunteer Cavalry Regiment is the largest Federal mounted and dismounted American Civil War Cavalry reenactment organization east of the Mississippi. The Regiment is comprised of numerous individual cavalry units representing and preserving the valor and deeds of the American Civil War Cavalryman. Our units are located in the northeast, southeast and midwest. When all of our units join forces at large scale reenactments the Regiment is capable of fielding one hundred or more mounted troopers. No horse, no problem! The Regiment is also home to a large contingent of dismounted cavalry troopers that share equal standing with the mounted units.
The USV Cavalry Regiment participates in most of the major Civil War reenactments on the east coast and western theater events like Morgan's Raid in Ohio, Part of the Ohio Bi-Centennial. Many members of the regiment have also made appearances in important Civil War Films like Gettysburg & Gods & Generals.

From the Col. Desk:
Fellow USV Members,
The 2012 campaign season and the second year in the 150th Anniversary cycle is upon us. As you gear up for your unit meetings, I wanted to let you know what events are out there for consideration. There are a bunch and we start early. Before I do, I want to thank Capt. Brown for assuming the role of Adjutant of the Regiment. You have probably already noticed the new website and have reviewed the new USV monthly newsletters. Col Hoerer and I have made it a point to improve the lines of communications. Ken is doing an outstanding job.
USV MEETING – January 21, 2012
USV CAVALRY MEETING – Gettysburg, March 3, 2012
Once again, unit commanders from all of the major cavalry units, north and south, will be assembling in Gettysburg to discuss events and issues important to the Cavalry. We will have a series of speakers arranged to present information on timely topics. All unit members are invited.
SHILOH-March 29, April1, 2012-Tenn.
http://shiloh150.org
The USV Cavalry Regiment has been granted a Regimental Command under the overall Cavalry command of Col. Ron Orange. The 6th Ohio, Loudan Rangers, and members of the 2nd US have registered for the event. We have secured a separate camp area where trailers will be permitted. Gen Crowder indicates that it is just off a paved surface and close to the cavalry camp. Ken and I will be attending the Blue Gray Alliance Convention this weekend in Nashville where we will be receiving first hand information on this event. We will be providing a full report to the regiment on our return.
TREVILIAN STATION - June 9-11, 2012
www.facebook.com/pages/...Trevilian Station.../303752495947
This will be the warm up event to the anniversary event in 2014. This will be a maximum effort event for the entire CS cavalry force. It is being held at the same site as last year and we will be camped in the same location. Great camping for trailers will once again be available. We have been working on the extended ride for the anniversary event. If you are able, we will be arranging a ride on the actual battlefield on Friday afternoon. We will be providing more information on that as we get into the season. We will also be taking unit officers on a drive over the proposed ride route for the 2014 event. Gen. Wilt, the CS commander has sent us registration material that was previous forwarded to you. If you have any questions regarding the event, contact either Capt. Brown or myself. This should be quite an event again.
GETTYSBURG – 4th of July weekend
Most USV member units have attended the off year Gettysburg events. This one however will be getting a lot more attention because of the 150th anniversary event planned next year. We all know what we get here. This year however, expect more cavalry.
2ND MANASSAS – August 3-5,2012, Cedar Creek
This event is being sponsored by the USV/ANV Mason Dixon Alliance which is the same organization that put on last years 1st Manassas. The ANV Cavalry has already listed this as a max effort event and they will be there in force. They are expecting 5K reenactors.
ANTIETAM – September 14,15, 2012, Maryland.
http://www.marylandcampaign150.org/Reenactment.html
There are actually two Antietam Events. One hard core event being sponsored by Chris Anders (no females) and the other mainstream event put on by a group headed by George Lomas. The USV has been asked to command the mainstream event. Again, the ANV Cavalry has listed this as a max effort event.
DAHLGREN’S RAID – September 27-30 , 2012
This will be THE CAVALRY EVENT of the year. Plan on riding over 35 miles along the pristine historic route that Col. Dahlgren and his Federal Cavalry did during their fateful raid. The event is being sponsored by the 2nd US Cavalry and they have as usual done a fabulous job. This will be a Morgan’s Raid type event. This one is a must.
These are the events that the USV Cavalry, either through myself or Col. Hoerer have been asked to command. As stated, a lot to choose from. I am still waiting on word on whether there will be a Cedar Creek event in October. If and when I confirm this, I will let you all know.
If you have any questions, feel free to send them along.
I hope to see you all at the USV meeting next week.
Darrell

" He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength, and charges into the fray. He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; he does not shy away from the sword. The carbine rattles against his side, along with the flashing saber. In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground; he cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds. At the blast of the trumpet he snorts, 'Aha!' He catches the scent of battle from afar, the shout of commanders and the battle cry-THE WARHORSE."
